THANK YOU to everyone who “Likes” AVID on Facebook!  This week, our Facebook page received its 10,000th “Like” from a Facebook friend.  Just as AVID in schools across the U.S. and world, our AVID online community is growing too.

Why?

Last year, a veteran reporter for the Dallas Morning News, who attended our National Conference, whispered to me at the end of the student panel discussion, “I don’t know why every school doesn’t have AVID.”

Me either, but I know that our online community will help spread the word.

Remember the line from the movie Field of Dreams, “If you build it, they will come”?  Together, we are building an online community that will allow AVID students, alumni, and educators to tell their AVID stories. We’re up and running at full speed on our blog, Adventures in College & Career Readiness, Facebook and Twitter for anyone interested in learning more about AVID from people who know it best.

We want to serve more than 1,000,000 students by 2020, and we can reach that goal by letting people know about AVID with the help of social media and our online community.  Why? Because AVID is a phenomenal program/system that really does work to help kids, particularly first-generation college-goers, go to and succeed in college, and we’ve been doing it for more than 30 years. You can read about real experiences from actual students and teachers who post their stories on our pages.

If you know about AVID, help us spread the word. “Like” us on Facebook, “Follow” us on Twitter, and join the conversation on our blog.  We want to hear from you!
